Research-Informed Development and Evaluation

BI12 was developed through a systematic review of the nurse workforce literature and refined through pilot evaluation with registered nurses in acute care settings. Its development reflects an evidence-informed process that combines research, pilot testing, and ongoing instrument refinement under appropriate IRB oversight.

IRB Status
Exempt Determination · Advarra Pro00089696
Pilot Wave 1
N = 120 frontline registered nurses in acute care settings
Reliability
Evaluated across all twelve domains (McDonald's omega); eight of twelve show acceptable-to-strong internal consistency. Two domains identified for item refinement ahead of the next wave — a normal, expected step in early-stage instrument development.
Status
Ongoing evaluation and refinement; additional psychometric evaluation planned as larger datasets become available.
BI12 Provides
Descriptive workforce indicators and Balance Tier classifications for leadership planning
Not Intended For
Individual employment decisions, clinical diagnosis, or predictive workforce modeling
Data Use
All BI12 results are reported as organizational aggregates, never at the individual level
Development Status
BI12 follows a continuous improvement approach. As additional organizational data become available, the assessment will continue to undergo evaluation and refinement to strengthen its measurement properties and practical usefulness.
ETHICAL USE STATEMENT
BI12 is a workforce planning tool, not a diagnostic instrument. It does not diagnose individuals, establish clinical conditions, determine root causes, predict outcomes, or serve as the basis for individual employment decisions.
